Jyu Raku

Assalamualaikum wahai encik diari yang setia,

Well dear, I don't know how much you like it (or hate it), here's another entry about foods. You just need to bear with it okay. I need to write it fast before I forgot all the names of the dishes that we have been consuming there. This time, we had chance to taste Japanese cuisine at Jyu Raku Japanese Restaurant at Subang SS15.

There are quite a number of Japanese restaurants at SS15 and according to Mr Bf who is a truly Japanese food lover, Jyu Raku is among the best. Being among the newest baby on the block, the quality of the foods has been pretty excellent with an extensive range of dishes to choose from. Resembling the same layout just like other Japanese restaurants that we had tried before (somewhere around Bukit Bintang and Sg Wang), the ambiance are very very welcoming.

Me enjoying the cozy dining seats

Nampak tak kerusi pendek? Rasa macam duduk atas lantai.

The dining area on the first floor are quite spacious. You can choose whether to eat at the usual dining table or if you want to eat like the Japanese does, there is a section where you feel like you're actually sitting on the floor. Feel tu penting tau untuk menambah kenikmatan mengadap hidangan. As soon as we got there, we ordered two beverages, Ice Lemon Tea for him and Soursop de Guava for myself. Hari yang panas terus bertukar jadi nyaman.hehehe..

Our drinks; Ice Lemon Tea (RM3.80) and Soursop de Guava (RM6.00)

Now let us start with the appertizer. We chose one set of their signature King Roll and a bowl of Edamame as our starters. King Roll tu sangat sangat lah sedap! Unagi, prawn, sashimi, and avocado wrapped with a very thin piece of cucumber and topped with salmon roe. Served with grated wasabi and their special soy sauce, the taste was just like fuhhh, heaven!!

For the main dishes, I decided to try on the Sukiyaki Chicken. The portion was like MasyaAllah, hugeeeee.. Masa mula mula diorang serve tu I rasa macam, hello, perli ke apa ni? Tau la I kuat makan, tapi ni perli baikk punya okeh. I do feel offended somehow!hihihi. All in all, the chicken sukiyaki is a light, elegant, and social dish, perfect for all sort of occasions.. Worth trying!=))

My sukiyaki chicken set (RM33.00). Gila banyak. Tak habis makan sorang!!

Don't disturb. Raksasa hijau tengah menjamu selera. Sapa kacau kena ngapp!!:p

For him, he tried on the Sake Butteryaki. He has been telling me that he wanted to eat salmon from Japanese restaurant with me like ages before, and there he was, smashing the yummilicios grilled salmon, like a real fish lover. Memang rasa salmon tu diakui sangat sedap. The Japanese touch really boost up the sweetness from the fresh salmon. If there is a next time, I will definitely choose grilled salmon for me.hehehe..

His Sake Butteryaki (RM25.00). Grilled salmon yang enak. Yummie yummie!

Dah tak sempat pandang kiri kanan dah.hehehe.

Apparently, there are quite a lot more that we haven't try at Jyu Raku. Mati la kalau nak makan semua hari tu. Yahuuu!!=))

We won't hesitate to pay you another visit, Jyu Raku

p/s: How I miss spending time exploring new restaurants with him. Thank you for all the meaningful treats. Next time will definitely be my turn. But the next time is still longgggg way to go lah sayang..:'(

Cerita makan makan

Hai hai Mr Diary!

I was browsing thru the pictures in my Iphone when I suddenly came up with the mood to tell you about this. Ha, biasanya masa skype dengan Mr Bf, kami akan discuss pasal apa nak makan bila jumpa nanti. So, dalam sesi skype sebelum I balik Malaysia hari tu, kitorang decide nak makan steak. Steak from steakhouse. Not the ones we may get from restaurants offering steak in their menu list.

Bila dah decide nak makan steak, pening nak pilih the dining place lah pulak. It's not that easy though. Ye la, ni bukan makanan harian yang boleh suka suka nak pegi makan tiap tiap hari. Boleh rabak poket kalau hari hari nak makan dekat fine dining restaurant. So, bila baca review dekat internet, banyak orang recommend Outback Steakhouse dengan San Francisco Steakhouse.

Finally, after a few brainstorming sessions, we decided to go to Outback Steakhouse at Bangsar Village. Parking senang and dekat untuk hantar I balik dekat Kota Damansara. You know what, there is one Outback Steakhouse in Wollongong and I also found another one in Sydney, but I never tried on any of them. Is it because it originally comes from Aussie? Maybe it is. I have no idea about that.

So, right when we got there, we had Aussie Cheese Fries as the appetizer. They called appetizers as Aussie-tizers. Funny huh? Then I chose their signature sirloin, Outback Special for myself and he tried on the Rockhampton Rib Eye. The serving size is huge enough for big eaters like us (or me to be exact). Konon romantik lah share share air. Padahal nak jimat. hahaha..:p

Aussie-Tizer, Aussie Cheese Fries (RM 17.95)

My sirloin steak; Outback Special (RM 44.95)

His Rockhamptom Rib Eye (RM 46.95)

All in all, the foods are okay, and the service is not bad. Worth paying I could say. Cuma I musykil sikit kenapa diorang hire bukan orang Malaysia sebagai pelayan. Bukan Melayu, bukan Cina, bukan India, bukan Bumiputra, orang asli dah tentu tentu lah bukan. Nak kata Mat Salleh jauh sekali lah pulak.

Mariii!!

p/s: This is my first restaurant review I guess. More to come after this. So, if you're interested, have fun trying yea!

Family BBQ

Hellooo from Wollongong!!

I'm now writing from my house at Catherine St, Gwynneville. Home sweet home. Walaupun semalam baru je meninggalkan Malaysia dengan berat hati, somehow, somewhat, I do miss my life in Wollongong. Full time student life. Balik dengan lebih bersemangat. To end this journey, fast!!

Ohh btw, a night before my departure day, my brother organized a barbecue session at my Pakcik's house at Alam Damai, Cheras. This is his way of saying thank you to all our uncles and aunties who contributed a lot in making sure that his wedding ceremonies became a huge success. Without them, it might be a little bit hard for him to have wonderful events like those described in his wedding synopsis.

Barbecue session

So, in regards to the bbq session, bapak brought 3 kilos of fresh prawns special from Penang.

Udang fresh Penang mari

Okay, no kidding! Udang tu memang sebesar muka adik I, Burhan.

Owh, the chickens were marinated by my beloved father himself. Sangat sangat sedap!! Did I ever mentioned that my father is a good cook? Siapa nak rasa jemput la datang rumah. Pasti tak malu untuk offer diri sendiri nak datang makan lagi lepas tu. Sungguh!

Ayam yang diperap oleh bapak. Ambik kau seperiuk besar!

Ikan kembung yang manis dan fresh. Also Penang mari.

Selera orang Melayu memang tak sah kalau tak mencicah dengan air asam. Apa barang cicah sos cili je kan? So, sekali lagi khidmat chef Haji Azmi digunakan untuk prepare ayaq asam special mai dari Penang punya. Sekali kena, comfirm jatuh cinta. Maksud I jatuh cinta dengan air asam Haji Azmi ye. Jatuh cinta dengan anak anak dara Haji Azmi is a big NO NO! hehehe. Antara lain lain pelengkap hidangan untuk malam tu adalah shepherd pie, roti jala dengan gulai daging, nasik goreng, cheese cake, mango salsa, karipap, buah buahan dan air bandung soda (kedai ayam penyet dekat The Curve panggil Soda Gembira. Huh, apa kaitannya I pun tak dapat relate).

Super yummy side dishes

So malam tu hampir kesemua ahli keluarga sebelah mak I datang memeriahkan suasana. Bakar bakar, makan makan, main games, hampir pukul 1 pagi baru tamat. Memang penat tapi sangat best! Nak lagi! Nak lagi! Tapi kena tunggu I balik Malaysia lagi la nanti ye.. So, that's all for now. Catch up with you again later. Tata.

Henna art work

Assalamualaikum!

I baru siap packing barang. Hmm, dah macam kedai runcit dah beg tu. Pastu nanti mula la merungut nak kena tarik beg berat berat. Padan muka I! huhu..
Ha, hari tu masa wedding abang I pakai inai tau. Tapi bukan pakai macam pengantin yang penuh jari tu. Saja suka suka lukis dekat tangan. Mula mula, masa semua orang dok pakai, I jual mahal. Konon taknak nampak macam pengantin. Tapi bila tengok semua orang pakai cantik je, mula la I pun teringin. Rasanya dah lebih 15tahun I tak main inai tau. Last masa sekolah rendah masa zaman gedik gedik nak merahkan kuku konon macam pakai cutex. Ni tiba tiba buang tebiat pi pakai pulak. hihihi..

Btw, adik perempuan I yang number dua, Hamizah yang lukis macam macam corak inai kat semua orang. She really got the talent. You just name it, from the simplest to the most complicated design, she drew them all. Everybody loves her art work. I yang mula mula berlagak konon taknak pun tiba tiba jadi nak pulak.hehehe. But I asked her to draw the simplest design for me. Macam kat bawah ni.

Ya Allah jari sapa yang gemok sangat tu? T__T

I regarded henna as a sign of joy and beauty. Nothing more than that. Tapi rasanya kalau kahwin nanti I tak pakai yang corak corak macam ni la kot. Nak pakai yang macam tradisional pengantin Melayu selalu pakai je tu. Inai merah kat hujung jari je. Nampak sopan dan ayu la konon.hehehe. Okay, enough! Stop dreaming girl!:p

Saja buat peace terbalik sebab saja nak tunjuk inai yang kat tangan tu.hehehe.

p/s: Jangan suruh I lukis corak inai macam tu. Nanti keluar segala simbol matematik kat tangan baru padan muka. Tangan tak berseni langsung. Haihh~

Wedding synopsis

Dear diary,

After so long, finally I got some time to drop by and come up with something worthwhile. Without noticing how fast the time flies, now I need to start packing all my things, throw everything inside my luggage, and ready to leave. HALF-HEARTEDLY. I never seem to have enough. The time just flies. Sighs~

Alhamdullillah, everything is over now. The wedding ceremonies went on very well, according to what has been planned months before. My brother, Muhammad Hanif and his wife, Mai Nazura is legally united in marriage now. Wishing them a life with marital bliss. Aminn.

Beginning with the akad nikah on 12th Nov, my brother signed the marriage contract and agreed to provide the bride with a certain amount of mas kahwin. Alhamdulillah, dengan sekali lafaz, mereka berdua sah bergelar suami isteri. Tahniah buat kedua-dua mempelai.

The newly-wed

Family portrait with the newly-wed

Wedding reception on the bride's side was held on the 13th Nov. Enhancing the beauty of Malay weddings.

Majlis bersanding (Bride's side)

Family Portrait (Silver theme)

On 14th Nov, we hosted the wedding reception on the groom's side. It was successfully held at Kampung Pengantin, Setapak. Applying the garden wedding theme, the open-air hall was beautifully decorated with all shades of white.

Perfect! That's all I can say. Majlis yang mungkin diidamkan oleh semua orang. Just like a fairy tale wedding. Worth every penny paying.

Strange feelings

Just a very short drop here,

I'm gonna reach KL around 9pm tomorrow. But this time I need to make my own way home from KLIA. Ohh, sungguh aneh sekali. Normally, as soon as I touch down in KL, he's the first person to welcome me, greet me with his warmest smile. But this time, he's not gonna be there. Strange! Strange!

Gonna miss this person so badly.

Okay, don't get me wrong. He's not gonna be there because he himself will be outstation for one week. Takmau kawan Perodua sebab hantar boifren saya jauh jauh!! See, I did mentioned in my previous entry on how engineers will be busy with outstations. Ha, baru je cakap sikit, buah hati sendiri dah kene hantar outstation ke luar negara. Board of Engineer marah la tu I kutuk engineer diorang.hehehe.. Ampunkan saye ye, tapi takmau kawan jugak..:(

So, esok, sampai je KLIA, I terus ambik KLIA Express ke KL Sentral. Then dah bagitau abang suruh ambik kat situ je. Pakndak pun dah offer nak ambik in case abang tak available. Kalau abang yang ambik, maknanya malam tu I tido di Kota Damansara. Tapi kalau Pakndak yang ambik, malam tu I tido di Gombak. Esoknya pulak dah mula berkumpul kat Alam Damai, Cheras. Eh, macam orang nomad pulak bawak beg besar ke hulu ke hilir nanti. Ngee~~

p/s:I can hardly say goodbye to Wollongong, but at the same time I can't wait to say hello to Malaysia. Can I have both at a time? No?

Lecturer VS Engineer

Dear Mr Diary,

An old friend of mine posted this topic on his FB wall last night. And the thoughts on this kept me awake for about half an hour before I actually fall in my own sweet slumber. Why? Bukan sebab I seorang bakal lecturer and Mr Bf pulak seorang engineer jadi kitorang nak bertinju. No, no such thing like that. Takde kaitan pun! Actually, he seek for opinions from us on which career to choose upon graduating; a lecturer/professor in mechanics or an engineer in the same area. Ha, a question requiring sturdy resolution isn't it?

First, if I am at his place, I myself couldn't even make up my mind that easily. Banyak benda nak kena consider. If you go for moneywise, an engineer gives you better salary. Itupun kena suffer dulu kerja 5-10 tahun sebelum nak dapat gaji belas-belas or puluh-puluh ribu. Once you have 10years of working experience, ha, kau demand la berapa gaji pun, insyaAllah orang kasi. Lagi satu, mak bapak kat kampung pun bangga nak bagitau orang pasal anak dia. Kalau orang kampung tanya, "Anak keja apa kat Kolumpo tu Pak Mat??". Laju je Pak Mat jawab, "Enginiaaaaa". Macho kan bunyinya.hehehe..:p
An engineer looks hot with his coverall on. Ngeee..:p

Tapi yang tak bestnya, workload bertan tan, kerja tak tentu masa, outstation sana sini, meeting meeting meeting, report report report, pastu stress tak hingat punya. Hang on Amirah, you tu tak penah jadi engineer, pandai pandai je reka cerita. Mengamuk para jurutera seantero dunia nanti tau.huhu.. No offense yea. But that's what I heard from engineers around me lah. Bukan berdasarkan pengalaman sendiri. Correct me if I'm wrong okay!! Peace..(^_~)v

My engineer. Ha, yang ni tak bole kacau ye..:p

Kalau jadi lecturer pulak, gaji memang la tak besar mana. Kerja 10 tahun sekali pun, payah nak cecah 10K. KECUALI!! Mereka mereka yang rajin tulis buku, mengajar part time, bagi talk, or apa apa je side works, boleh la demand income yang tinggi. Tapi dari segi kualiti hidup, I suka gila. Tak payah nak punch in or out, asalkan lectures semua tiptop, research bergerak, meeting tak ponteng, admin works tak diabaikan, ha, gasak la kau nak tungging ke terbalik ke dalam ofis tu. Takde sape kisah! Tapi ni pun I bukan bercakap berdasarkan pengalaman. Again, correct me if this is unacceptable okay. I belom pernah jadi lecturer lagi. Habis PhD nanti baru nak balik jenguk-jenguk macam mana la dunia lecturer ni sebenarnya..I wonder..=))

I wonder how am I going to handle situation like this. Hmm..

So, opinion I untuk kawan I tu, memandangkan dia belajar dalam area mechanics, I suggested him to gain as much experience as he can as a professional engineer first. Then, bila dah ilmu penuh di dada, anytime dia boleh tukar kerja jadi lecturer, provided, he needs to complete his Masters and PhD first. Dulu masa undergrad, I used to adore lecturers with working experiences in the real world. Rasa macam apa yang beliau cakap tu semua betol belaka. The way they delivered the information is so much different compared to those lecturers who came directly after completing their studies (which is just like me..sighs~). I harap I akan jadi seorang lecturer yang best di USM nanti. Aminnn..=))

Role model, Dr Zaitul Marlizawati. I always wanted to be like her. Everybody loves her.

Masa isi ruang cita-cita zaman sekolah rendah dulu, I tak pernah berangan pun nak jadi engineer. Leave alone doctor, lawyer, accountant etc.. Bukan tak bercita cita tinggi. But they are not listed in the nature of my interests. Dulu dapat tawaran ke UK untuk Bachelor in Engineering, offer turned down. Another offer to Japan pursuing the same area, again, offer turned down. Last sekali I purposely pilih untuk belajar Mathematics di UTM and here I am, ending up as a future lecturer in Applied Mathematics in USM, insyaAllah.

My all time favourite ambition; kindergarten teacher

p/s: Lepas dah siap PhD ni, I berangan nak belajar part time ambik diploma atau sijil dalam Early Childhood Education or at least apa apa diploma yang berkaitan dengan Education. Ohh, lupa nak cakap, cita-citaku untuk jadi cikgu tadika takkan padam sampai bila bila even kalau ditakdirkan berpangkat Profesor sekalipun. One day. My wish. Praying hard.

Cold November Rain

Hello dearie,

Been away for a few days. And now I'm back to work. Today is the starts of the last month of spring. How's November weather? Hmm, I think almost all of Australia has generally fine weather now, warmer in the north and tapering to mild as one starts heading south. As I just got back from the south, the weather was still very very chilling where the maximum daily temperature was still below 20°C and it decreased down to 7-8°C at night. What a bummer. Sungguh tak best berjalan jalan dalam cuaca sejuk tau!

Outdoor birds aviary at Melbourne Zoo

Kangaroo valley. Tapi tak dapat pegang pun kangaroo. Owh, sungguh kechiwa!!=(

Menunggu tram di St Kilda Road

Do I need to tell you more about my Melbourne trip? Hmm, nothing much to tell I guess. I wrote a few stories about Melbourne when I was there in January. I can't deny that Melbourne is a style setter with some of the best shopping and nightlife in Astralia. Whether you are searching for the streets wear to designer's label, Melbourne has it all. Me? Haruslah cari yang murah murah. Lagi murah lagi bagus. Dapat beli banyak banyak..:p

Ha, nak tau something tak? I booked 3 nights stay at Malaysian Hall Melbourne. I dah siap call pegawai yang uruskan, dah email form, kira dah comfirm semua semua lah before pegi sana. Then bila sampai proses nak check in, tiba tiba beliau cakap nama I takde dalam sistem. Ha, mula la I nak naik darah. Tapi I cool lagi masa tu memandangkan berurusan dengan pegawai kerajaan. I tanya, "Sekarang macam mana ni encik? Saya anggap ni technical problem, tapi saya harap ada solution untuk problem ni". Dengan confident nya I bercakap. Padahal cuak kalau takde tempat tinggal. Kene pi cari backpackers la pulak nanti. Hadoii la..

Lepas pegawai tu belek belek online form yang I dah submit, panjang jugak dia fikir. Malangnya memang takde bilik kosong. Semua dah occupied. Hmmm, I dah mula tunjuk muka bengang. Mestila bengang!! Penat okay drive all the way from Wollongong for ten complete hours, tiba tiba pulak tak boleh check in. Bengang! Bengang! But then he suddenly said, "Cik Amirah, bilik visitors memang takde kosong, yang tinggal cuma bilik VVIP yang disediakan khas untuk menteri menteri kerajaan yang datang visit Malaysia Hall. Jadi, saya masukkan nama Cik Amirah untuk masuk dalam bilik tu la ye dengan bayaran yang sama".

I yang pada mulanya nak naik angin terus senyum sampai telinga. Waaaahh!! bayar $6 dollar satu malam tapi dapat duduk bilik yang cantik gila dengan katil siap kerawang semua, ada washing machine, dapur complete dengan microwave, fridge, tv lcd, sofa empuk etc. Bahagianyaaaa mcm tu.. I took this as my second birthday present for 2010.hehe.. Mula mula pasal insurans kereta sewa, now duduk bilik VIP.

So, macam tu la kisahnya penempatan I dekat Melbourne. Cerita jalan jalan lain sama ja macam yang I penah cerita dulu dulu. It was not a good start at the very beginning, however things went on very well for the rest of our stay in Malaysia Hall Melbourne. Thanks Encik Hasnizul for the warm welcome and thanks to Irfan for your cooperation on arranging our last additional night there. I would love to be there again, tapi takdela letak harapan tinggi dapat duduk bilik menteri macam hari tu lagi dah. Kalau demand jugak, mesti diorang cakap. "Banyak cantik muka kau???" hehehe..:p

p/s: It rains breezingly for the whole day. I couldn't stop listening to the great masterpiece, November Rain by Guns N Roses over and over again. Sangat sedap lah lagu tu. Eventho it sounds like the 80s but I still love it. I love the part where the lyric says "And when your fears subside, And shadows still remain, I know that you can love me, When there's no one left to blame, So never mind the darkness, We still can find a way, 'Cause nothin' lasts forever, Even cold November rain". AWESOME!!
